Denmark Ends Its TV Licence...But Keeps Its State Broadcaster

Denmark scraps its media licence:
"Denmark is joining the growing number of European countries that have scrapped the licence fee for public broadcasting.
"The Danish government has agreed on a new media agreement that is expected to come into effect on January 1, 2019. The new measures means a cut in DR’s budget of 20% and will do away with the TV/media licence. The measure was taken by the VLAK government with the support of the Dansk Folkeparti party."
General taxation will now fund DR (the Danish Broadcasting Corporation).

Thus we have a re-run of the Australian experience: a successful campaign to end the TV licence results in an even worse system, in which every taxpayer in Denmark must now fund the state broadcasting conglomerate, regardless of whether he watches its output or even watches TV at all. Yet another pointer for those in the anti-TV licence camp who think that ending the licence will mean the end of the BBC.  It won’t.
